Cyril Le Moing left Paris for a vineyard apprenticeship. In the late 1990s, he contacted growers in his native Loire and found a place with Mark Angeli at Ferme de la Sansonnière. In 2003, he bought just under a hectare in Anjou and started making his own wine.
The domaine grew parcel by parcel around Martigné-Briand. Chenin, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grolleau are part of his small, varied patchwork, with some vines dating back to the early twentieth century.
He prunes carefully, keeps yields low and selects grapes by hand. In the cellar, gentle manual work and old barrels give each parcel room to show its own character. The scale can be tiny: a parcel may produce only a single barrel.
Japan is another part of his story. Cyril and Naomi married there, and LeMoing TOKYO introduces his wines to Japanese drinkers. That connection reaches a long way from his Anjou vineyards, even when there are only a few bottles to share.
