The Untamed Red. ValTolla Rosso is Croci’s tribute to the traditional red wines of the Piacenza hills in the Emilia-Romagna region. A classic blend of Barbera (60%) and Bonarda (40%), this wine undergoes a massive 30-day skin maceration, extracting every ounce of soul and structure from the fruit. At 13.5% ABV, it’s a red wine with real presence. It doesn’t try to be smooth or polished; it’s raw, earthy, and beautifully rustic. Expect deep dark fruit flavors balanced by grippy tannins and a vibrant acidity. No oak, no additives—just the pure, powerful expression of the land that pairs perfectly with hearty dishes.

Croci

Founded in 1935 on the hills of Monterosso, the Croci family has been dedicated to organic cultivation for three generations. Today, young owner Massimiliano Croci continues his family's legacy, managing 10 hectares of vines near the medieval village of Castell'Arquato. Their vineyards sit 250 meters above sea level on ancient clay and sandy soils, creating a unique environment where fermentation proceeds slowly due to the lean, nutrient-poor land and wild yeasts.

Massimiliano's winemaking is a masterclass in patience and tradition. The grapes are fermented in cement tanks with skin contact, and as the winter chill sets in, the fermentation naturally pauses. The wine rests through the cold months and is bottled under a waning moon in Spring. As the weather warms, the dormant yeasts awaken inside the bottle, naturally creating the gentle bubbles that define Croci's signature “frizzante” wines. By embracing his surroundings rather than controlling them, Massimiliano produces authentic “Terroir Wines” that truly express the history and soul of Piacenza.
